TODAY'S ENDORSEMENTS: The Phoenix (Boston)
Animal rights attorney linked to campaign of threats against greyhound adoption volunteers. Dear Editor: Question 3 will end 1,138 jobs in Massachusetts. A message from Linda JensenMassachusetts Question 3 is on the November 4 ballot to ban dog racing here in the Bay State. Question 3 will put people out of work in the state’s already faltering economy – at least 1000 full and part time workers in a state with already high unemployment figures for college graduates and other displaced professionals. These facts about Greyhound racing at licensed tracks in Massachusetts are not open to serious dispute. The backers of Question 3 are part of a fundraising machine that moves from state to state, putting initiatives and referenda on the ballot, enlisting local support and raising money. This particular measure is sponsored by Grey2K (the same group of national animal rights fundraisers who failed to ban greyhound racing in a similar attempt in Massachusetts in 2000), the MSPCA, an organization whose job is to investigate and prosecute all forms of animal cruelty, and the U.S. Humane Society. Today Grey2K and their extremist allies at the Humane Society of the United States are engaged in a crusade of distortion and misinformation designed to trick voters into destroying the livelihood of hard-working people who make their living because of Massachusetts greyhound tracks. The Massachusetts Animal Interest Coalition was formed for the specific purpose of defeating Question 3. The coalition represents the interests of racing greyhounds, greyhound adoption, working families that rely on jobs created by the Massachusetts greyhound racing industry, and dog owners under the state-regulated stewardship of Wonderland and Raynham-Taunton tracks who are opposed to the passage of Question 3 on the November 4 ballot. As a greyhound adoption professional, this statistic matters to me: The industry has a 100% placement rate for putting Massachusetts retired racers into adoptive homes. (Listen to excerpt of WBZ radio debate on greyhound adoption statistics, Oct. 15.) To ensure the welfare of all dogs in Massachusetts, racing greyhounds are under the constant supervision of the state police and the Massachusetts Racing Commission, and under the care of certified veterinarians. As a result of their careful scrutiny and faithful oversight, there has never been one documented case of dog abuse in any licensed track in Massachusetts. This site was created to tell the truth about Question 3 and its devastating consequences for dogs and working families in Massachusetts if it is passed. I invite you to check back often at protectdogsandjobs.org for more informational content about the need to Vote No on Question 3 on November 4. Linda Jensen |
